A Note from Ms. Hayward

Math
Today we reviewed how to make a path from one place on the 100s chart to another spot. First I told the students which number to start at and gave them 3 directions to end up at a new number. After each direction we recorded what number we stopped at. Then the students had to come up with their own directions and switch with a partner to follow their directions and find their number. They did this twice.

UOI with Language Focus

Today we read 2 more chapters of our novel study book. Together we talked about the questions and then the students had to write their answers independently.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we watched a video that talked about the different animals and plants we find in the desert. Then as a class we came up with a list of each one. Then students had to choose 8 of each to copy onto their sheet. Then they began drawing the desert and had to make sure to include the appropriate animals and plants that belong there.

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
