SJA Summer Camp
With summer around the corner, what better way for your children to spend the summer but here at SJA! SJA summer camp registrations were sent home earlier this year. We are offering 7 weeks of summer fun with a minimum of 3 excursions per week. There is lunch and snack options and before and after care available. Register before it is too late! Ms. Hughes would be happy to answer any questions you may have. She can be reached at bsmith@stjudesacademy.com

Math
Today we did another activity to explore mass of certain objects. We picked 4 things in the classroom to weigh with our scale. We talked about how when the scale is straight and balanced, the two things are even in weight. We used blocks to measure how heavy the objects we picked were. The students first estimated how many blocks they though each object would weigh. Then we added one block at a time until each object was balanced on the scale. We recorded their weight and then we put them in order from lightest to heaviest.

Physical Education
Ms. Yustin was away at Track and Field today so I took the students outside and we did various activities such as trying to throw balls into the targets, throwing the ball as far as they could and then we did a few races. They did such a great job and it was so nice getting outside in the beautiful weather.

Unit of Inquiry
Today I gave students 2 periods to finish their summative projects. They finished making their dioramas and then once they finished they got together with a partner to practice their presentation. Our presentations will be on Monday and Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!

A Note from Ms. Hayward

Math
Today we reviewed what mass was. We discussed how we could measuring the mass of something by seeing how much it weighs. Students got to look at 2 different scales and we discussed how they were different and how we could use them. We also talked about how if 2 things were on the scale, the one that was closer to the floor was the heavier one, because it has more weight to push it down. Then we predicted the order of the weight of the 4 objects we had. Students had to put the objects in order from lightest to heaviest. Then we tested them on our scale to find out what the results would be. Students recorded the results. Then I had 4 students each pick an item to weigh. We predicted their order and then recorded the results. The students had so much fun with this activity!

Reading Buddies
Today we had a visit from Mr. Conte's grade 5 class for reading buddies. We love having them join us and helping us read!

UOI with Language Focus
Today we read the last 2 chapters of our novel study book. Then we talked about what happened and the students thought about which part of the book was their favourite. We shared our thoughts and talked about what we learned about the rainforest from the book. Students also got 15 more spelling words. These will be the last ones we do for the rest of the year. The corresponding spelling sentences will be due next Friday.
