March Break Camp at SJA

It was such a beautiful sunny day today! The students loved rolling around in the snow and burying eachother!

Anti-Bullying Day Assembly
Today we had our anti bullying day assembly. It was so nice to see so many students supporting the cause and standing against bullying. We started by talking about why we wear pink. A boy in grade 9 wore pink on the first day of grade 9 and was made fun of. This is how the anti bullying day symbol of a pink t-shirt came to be. We then talked about all the different types of bullying (physical, social, cyber and verbal). Then all students were asked to close their eyes and put up their hand if any of the scenarios that were read out had ever happened to them (if somebody called them a name, excluded them from participating in an activity, etc.) Students then opened their eyes and saw how bullying affects almost everyone at one point or another. After, students each got an outline of a t-shirt and got to design their own anti-bullying shirt. They did a great job!

Math
Today students received a package about the shapes that our test will be on tomorrow. They had to review how many faces, edges and vertices each shape has and whether they can roll, stack and slide. Then they has to colour the everyday objects that were each shape and then trace and draw the object. I also marked their review packages that were due today and handed them back to the students, going over what they need to pay extra attention to for the test tomorrow.

Unit of Inquiry
Today students presented their inventor biography. They told us when and where they were born and when and where they died. They talked about what they invented and why their invention was important. They also showed everyone the picture that they drew of their chosen inventor. Then we went over the Invention package that they will be using to brainstorm for the invention they will be building at school next week.

Have a great evening!
