Today students wrote their unit test! They will be going home tomorrow to be signed and returned.

UOI with Language Focus
Today students practices letter writing format. They had to cut and paste the elements of a letter in the correct spot. Then they had to write a letter to the kitchen staff thanking them for all they do for us. They did a great job!

Unit of Inquiry

Today we learned about totem poles! We watched a video about them and what they are used for. We learned that important symbols are used to show a family or clan's heritage and background. Then we looked at some different totem poles and discussed how they would be making their own. I showed students Ms. Gandy's lovely example and they began working on their totem poles. They were having such a good time doing it!

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

I’d love to hear about the action your children take part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
