March Break Camp at SJA

Jump Rope for Heart

It is that time again! We will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart on Thursday, February 14th. Donation packages have been sent home. You can make a pledge using cash or you can donate on the website - jumpropeforheart.ca. House points will be rewarded to each student who brings in donations. If we meet our school goal of $2500, students will be rewarded with a fun activity. Let’s see what we can do SJA.

Math
Today we continued working on bar graphs and tallying. As a class we did a tally of our favourite fruits. Then we created a bar graph to show our results. The students then had to independently come up with their own survey question and go around and ask their classmates the question. They had to track their answers with tallies and then tell what they learned from their survey. They loved getting to walk around and ask each other questions!

UOI with Language focus

Today students had time to work on memorizing their story retells again. While they worked quietly, I continued pulling students over to read their retell to me and I gave them some feedback and fixed some spelling mistakes. Please continue working on this with your child, as presentations for the Grade 1s begin on Monday and they should be memorized.

Physical Education

Daily Five
Students had time to work on their cursive, read to themselves or to a friend.

Unit of Inquiry
Today we watched an episode of Bill Nye the Science Guy about inventions! Then we talked about how Benjamin Franklin invented the wood burning stove. The students had to use their senses to imagine what it would smell and sound like and imagine what it would be without their warmth. Then they got to draw what they thought they looked like! They loved comparing their drawings to a picture of the real thing! They did a great job!

Have a great evening!
