Today we learned about what a metre is. We discussed that there is 100 centimetres in 1 metre and that centimetres are used to measure small things, while metres are used for bigger objects. The students then had to find something in the class that they thought was smaller than 1 metre, bigger than 1 metre and something that was about 1 metre long. They had to make an estimate of how long they thought it would be first before actually going to measure. They recorded their results and explained their thinking. Then students completed an activity where they were given multiple pictures of everyday items an then had to circle whether they would use centimetres or metres to measure them. They did a great job!

Today students got their new words of the week! They wrote them down and then worked on pages 130-132 in their spelling workout book. If students finished early, I allowed them to start working on their spelling sentences. Since we will not be at school on Friday, students will write their spelling test on Thursday when we get back from our field trip.

Library
Students got to go to the library today to listen to a story read by Ms. Hayward. They also got the chance to sign out a new book.
Unit of Inquiry
Today students got some time to finish up some details on their totem poles. I helped them glue them together and then everybody presented in front of the class. They told us what they put on their totem pole and the significance behind each symbol or picture. So proud of their hard work on these!
Have a great evening!
