Math
Today students learned how to subtract using the place value mats. We did some examples together on the board to see how to borrow from the tens just like when we subtract in columns. They then had some time to work on a page from their workbooks individually. They did a great job!

Reading Buddies

Today the students got some time to read with their reading buddies! It's always such a fun time for them!

UOI with Language Focus
Today we continued with our novel study. We read 3 more chapters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and students answered the corresponding comprehension questions. Then they predicted what they thought would happen next.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we continued working on the Ted Harrison inspired paintings that the students began yesterday. They learned about how he used primary and secondary cool and warm colours to create contrast in his pieces. We began the painting today. They had so much fun! They are looking great so far!

Spelling Words and Homework

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
