March Break Camp at SJA

Today our house game was a pancake eating contest!! Kappa came in first place, followed by Zeta in second and Theta in third. We are so appreciative of everyone who helped cook the pancakes for us!

Math
Today we continues with our new unit on adding and subtracting using base 10 blocks and place value mats. As a class we completed the first addition problem and showed it in two ways. We discussed how we could replace 10 ones with 1 group of ten instead. The students then had to complete 2 more addition problems on their own. They had to show their groups of tens and their ones and find out the answer to the problems.

UOI with Language Focus

Today we read another chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students completed the corresponding comprehension questions and predicted what they thought would happen next. Samara then read the class her story that she had put together with lovely pictures. She was so excited to share it with everyone! She did a fantastic job!

Unit of Inquiry
Today students continued building their invention for their summative project. They have been doing a great job and are so excited to see their idea come to life!

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

I’d love to hear about the action your children take part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
