Just a friendly reminder that re-registration packages are due by Monday, February 11. After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year. We look forward to seeing you back for next year!

Fundraising Market

As part of our summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement our organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 25, 28 and 29. The market will take place all day Thursday, January. 24^th and Friday, January. 25^th. All profits made will be donated to the Sick Kid’s Hospital.

Daily 5

Students had time this morning to work on their cursive, do some free writing or reading to themselves or a friend.

French

We had french with Mlle Jessica. Please see her blog at http://mllehousja.blogspot.com

Math

We worked on some more addition practice in our math workbooks. They're really getting the hang of it!

Gym

Ms.Yustin was away today so gym was cancelled.

Music

We had music with Ms. McMillan. Please see her blog.

Inquiry into Language

Today the students had time to read their book again and think about the main idea. We used this main idea to come up with an opening sentence for their retell presentation. Some students started working on summarizing the beginning, middle and end. We will continue working on these packages for the rest of the week and ask that the first page of the package be done by Monday.

Unit of Inquiry

Today students worked in their groups to finish their posters that will go at the table they will be responsible for at the market. They look great! They were so proud of them.

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
