SJA Summer Camp

With summer around the corner, what better way for your children to spend the summer but here at SJA! SJA summer camp registrations were sent home earlier this year. We are offering 7 weeks of summer fun with a minimum of 3 excursions per week. There is lunch and snack options and before and after care available. Register before it is too late! Math
Today the students were introduced to the concept of multiplication. They will not be tested on this unit, but are being introduced it to prepare for grade 2. We discussed how multiplication is the same as repeated addition. We used groups of marbles to show different multiplication problems. Then I gave each student different groups to make with the marbles. As a group, we discussed what the addition sentence would be, and then what the addition sentence would be. Then we solved the problems together. They did a great job!

UOI with Language Focus

Today students started writing a journal for father's day. I won't spoil it so it is a surprise on Sunday!

Unit of Inquiry

Today we went to 2 of the grade 5 classes to view the games they made by coding. The students got to test their games and hear about how they made them. They had so much fun!

What is Action?

Many people think that Action is easy to define. It is something you do, right? But Action is much more than that. Action is a part of who we are. If we want to change the world we need to start with changing ourselves. But sometimes change is hard. How do we make changes to the way we think so we can help the world?

If we want children to make a difference in the world we need to help them personalize the action they take, and understand that it is not just a mandate from their teachers and parents, but a life long mindset they develop. Taking action can happen at any age. It’s all about how we as parents, educators, and the community, support children and youth as they begin the learning journey towards becoming adults that are change agents!

I’d love to hear about the action your children take part in at home and in the greater community. Please send me a quick email or agenda note to let me know so we can celebrate together!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sara Brasil and I am so excited to be joining St Jude's Academy for the remainder of the school year! I completed my education at Wilfrid Laurier University and Nipissing University where I achieved an undergraduate degree and a teaching degree. My background is Portuguese, and I will be getting married this October.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher and worked hard to pursue my dream. I love working with children and working alongside them to build their potential and realize their own dreams!
