Grade 6 Exhibition

A message from some of the grade 6s:
Donate to people who are homeless

Hi!!, Our names are Mona, Joana, and Shivam.

We are doing a project called Exhibition where we choose a topic we are interested in and want to research more about in order to make a positive difference in our world. We chose the topic of homelessness because we do not want anyone to be without their basic needs. Every person has the right to have a home and food to eat and clothing to wear.
We are collecting donations so that we can donate them to Angela’s Place, a homeless shelter right here in Mississauga.

You can donate:
  • Non perishable food
  • Clothing (for all ages such as Pants, shirts, hats ,shoes and more)
  • Toiletries (mouthwash, feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant)
  • Seasonal clothing
  • Baby formula
  • Diapers
  • Baby products

Reason why we are doing this= Our plan is to help people who are homeless who need food and clothing and any other useful materials. After collecting these materials, we are going to donate all these items to a shelter called “Angela's Place(45 Glenn Hawthorne Blvd, Mississauga, ON L5R 4J9).

Thank you so much for making the world a better place!

Please bring items to Ms. Jaskolka's class (Room 30)

Earth Day House Game

Today we had a house game at our morning assembly hosted by some grade 6's from Ms. Jaskolka's class. The houses competed to see who could sort a bag of garbage into the provided recycling bin and garbage bin. Zeta came in third, followed by Kappa in second and Theta in third. Then they taught us a little bit about deforestation and why it is so harmful.

Math
Today the students learned about perimeter! We learned that perimeter is the distance around an object. As a class, we solved the length of fence I would need to fence off my garden. We talked about how you need to add together the lengths of all the sides in order to calculate perimeter. The students then completed a page from their workbook where they had to measure and calculate the perimeter around 3 pictures.

Reading Buddies
We had reading buddies today! The students got to read with the grade 5s and get some help with books they usually can't read on their own. They had a great time!

UOI with Language Focus

Grade 6 Presentation
Some grade 6s from Ms. Jaskolka's class came to our class to present about their exhibition topic of climate change. They did a great job teaching the grade 1's, and doing an activity with them where they got to draw their own earth. Thank you grade 6's!

Unit of Inquiry
Today we did some Earth Day activities! The students did an Earth day themed word search. Then they did a sorting activity where they had to cut and paste things in the proper spot. They had to determine whether an action was helpful or harmful to the Earth. Then we discussed each action and why it either helpful or harmful to the environment.

Have a great evening!
